Tremolo
Part 3
(Where
the Rubber Hits the Road)
Another
Practical Application
I discussed tremolo in a past week's message and
reproduced an edited version of Tárrega's Recuerdos de La
Alhambra later.
To conclude this discussion of tremolo, we have
the famous Una Limosna Por El Amor de
Dios by Augustin Barrios Mangore.
This is a big-league tremolo piece. Much of the
composition is up on the box.
Again, I
have used an edition here that I can not find any
information on. Albert Valdes-Blain had
photocopied it for me with the corrections he had
made to fingerings and the like. Please forgive
the shabby photocopy. A home copier was not the
same animal twenty six years ago as it is today.

I use the p,a,m,i
(thumb, ring, middle, index) right hand
fingering for this piece it's the same once again
as the study I wrote in the last tremolo
exercise. As always, slow and careful practice
will be required to get the desired rhythmic,
textural and dynamic qualities for the tremolo to
be musical. This piece is a show-off's delight.
Play it like the guitar's stolen. Still, there is
some nice passages in here, don't kill it totally
on the musical front.
Hear it played. CLICK
